<br />
This is quite a complex miniature to assemble, definitely the most tricky we have done so far for Sedition Wars. Unfortunately, with a design like this it was always going to be that way. It all went together pretty easily though - and the only part that caused any problems was fitting the roll-cage at the end. With little thin parts like that, some bending and warping is inevitable, so it took me a little while to get the fit right. I ended up heating it slightly with a hair drier, and that made it easier to get it into the right shape - then blowing on it to cool it down so it set like that.<br />
<br />
The parts had a little flash on them - the lower legs in particular. They are quite complex shapes to mould and that always leads to more mould lines to remove. It took me about 45 minutes to clean all the parts and get them ready for assembly. There were still little tiny bits of mould line showing here and there - but I'd consider it more than adequate for a gaming miniature. Another 15 miniatures and I would have had it really well finished. I used a clean fresh scalpel blade - two in fact - one curved and one straight edge. I also used a home made emery board (a length of brass with abrasive paper glued to it) to clean off the mould lines on the flat surfaces. It had quite a fine grit on the paper, and it actually did a really good job of smoothing down the surface without causing the plastic to tear and 'fluff'.<br />
<br />
When the mould lines were removed, I roughed up the areas that were going to be joined with a little piece of abrasive paper to give a better key for the glue. I used Zap-a-Gap medium for gluing - it was a fresh pot, and that really made a huge difference to the speed it took the parts to grab - in fact it was just a couple of seconds for each join.<br />
<br />
I was originally planning to pin the arms in place - but when I started assembling, I found there was quite a strong bond created with the two points of contact, so I didn't bother. I think if the miniature was going to be gamed with, and carried in cases a lot, I would be tempted though.<br />
<br />
Here is the step by step -<br />

Salute is one of the highlights of our year - and while it's a crazy day, we really look forward to seeing everyone there.<br />
<br />
We're at stand TK17, so please come along and see us if you are going.<br />
<br />
We are going to have the entire Limited Edition line available (those which haven't sold out anyway...), copies of the Battle for Alabaster game - which we will be running demos of at the booth, and some new preview releases...<br />
<br />
Everything we have there will be at special prices for Salute.<br />
<br />
The first is the new miniature in the LE resin series - Ur-Fidyr<br />

The bare headed version is designed to take the las carbine, and the helmeted version is primarily designed to take the special weapons, though it will also take the las carbine perfectly well. I have found it's easy to make the guns fit any of the miniatures with just a little trimming to the right shoulder, and in some cases a tiny re-positioning of the left arm with hot water (method <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruunglkNY5A&feature=player_embedded">here</a>).<br />
<br />
The special weapons for these miniatures are found in bag 3, on the sprues that also contain the Reaver arm and weapon.<br />
<br />
Each miniature comes in two pieces - the body and the weapon. Here are all the parts together - including the weapons still on the sprues.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_zjBfMepL6bFdXDHo4Apz9bT5WddD6i-zaPrUdEGl5XH92yhggc0hkm4DjqTzFifQdmm3gW6JVwNldeGOTesGAZYUVJbbAeik-wRFqzaRbOzI0867UX3xLbjRur5LPMmGTWkt1QVRXmzx/s1600/fem_sam_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_zjBfMepL6bFdXDHo4Apz9bT5WddD6i-zaPrUdEGl5XH92yhggc0hkm4DjqTzFifQdmm3gW6JVwNldeGOTesGAZYUVJbbAeik-wRFqzaRbOzI0867UX3xLbjRur5LPMmGTWkt1QVRXmzx/s400/fem_sam_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Before I assembled any of the miniatures, I dry fitted the parts I was working with to check the fit. If there needed to be any adjustment of the left arm, I did that first and then glued the pieces. The las Carbine fitted very well on the body with bare head, and the Lancer special weapon fitted well on the helmet body.<br />

<br />
This is just a two piece miniature - body, and arm/gun -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhnBxzCuJc2DPcx7Jj01FdaRW0jKMyBPG2b1mg5_Wu5q3xcmS8qS8IhgTUZR7LOx8w1wcBfb2fZTEs6hpENlBHaFSXFtqNQSHA6Dg8ILhFurvDUGQRYZdO_yk7ggvTBypKAWWKp88FB31/s1600/male_sam_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhnBxzCuJc2DPcx7Jj01FdaRW0jKMyBPG2b1mg5_Wu5q3xcmS8qS8IhgTUZR7LOx8w1wcBfb2fZTEs6hpENlBHaFSXFtqNQSHA6Dg8ILhFurvDUGQRYZdO_yk7ggvTBypKAWWKp88FB31/s400/male_sam_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And here is how he goes together -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9sgyfGfWhuVBK_74Hki5ElkXYLvSv52NsIm_VJPGN5jhavtAcZKyYTI9DdvyTL2ruav2ZJIloHUofy3zM5jz7VXg02EjKlKE8G8c9L08WIx83ChjCR8uObSfzKSPgYJreiliDzyOx9Jc/s1600/male_sam_base.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9sgyfGfWhuVBK_74Hki5ElkXYLvSv52NsIm_VJPGN5jhavtAcZKyYTI9DdvyTL2ruav2ZJIloHUofy3zM5jz7VXg02EjKlKE8G8c9L08WIx83ChjCR8uObSfzKSPgYJreiliDzyOx9Jc/s400/male_sam_base.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>

<br />
It's a nice close fit between the gun and the body, so they assemble very easily.<br />
<br />
Here's a couple of pictures of the fit between the gun and the body -<br />

Two of them only require attaching to the base, and the other just needs the two halves of the body joining.<br />
<br />
Here are the parts of the three variants -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEink8L2FlSpFtjpqXv6KxhmwCziq85zHsAEYj4BzBB39MgCRAIF9G24gwC2zlt5HPEuFWgalvgJXQEfdWi4CUJRNaUPLVKlAl3_x9keKQXlRne-nJfrauar5haxHgfBSov_BTDTJmB88lo2/s1600/revenants_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEink8L2FlSpFtjpqXv6KxhmwCziq85zHsAEYj4BzBB39MgCRAIF9G24gwC2zlt5HPEuFWgalvgJXQEfdWi4CUJRNaUPLVKlAl3_x9keKQXlRne-nJfrauar5haxHgfBSov_BTDTJmB88lo2/s400/revenants_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The two single piece miniatures just require attaching to the base -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVmAVqckA-QFNtyCjPF9i-xhm7rYhX1Wao5OC-gpUdOo_mwqvVjHDo5fy39yF-dcYkOnoGZXWtKDR1IEO7tPqT1GpcM1Dls_ctGNXK9x42rkeY5-mFheuey0o_atAHf-SOkdBtn94hc9Yk/s1600/revenant_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVmAVqckA-QFNtyCjPF9i-xhm7rYhX1Wao5OC-gpUdOo_mwqvVjHDo5fy39yF-dcYkOnoGZXWtKDR1IEO7tPqT1GpcM1Dls_ctGNXK9x42rkeY5-mFheuey0o_atAHf-SOkdBtn94hc9Yk/s400/revenant_1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi25MdZDGEQLZ24GZKfKYWpxQhtE4r6Q5rZC4vm7t_HZb-Ll4v6aZ0kX7Uj6_LWdapknGMr67CkpvDzBBlK2kiSaEx0x68pnrKWAOTfIuAH4hsy8BdZt9RuEtxZDWRbxPgzRW9pG7Q6nG8a/s1600/renenant_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi25MdZDGEQLZ24GZKfKYWpxQhtE4r6Q5rZC4vm7t_HZb-Ll4v6aZ0kX7Uj6_LWdapknGMr67CkpvDzBBlK2kiSaEx0x68pnrKWAOTfIuAH4hsy8BdZt9RuEtxZDWRbxPgzRW9pG7Q6nG8a/s400/renenant_3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The other Revenant just need the two halves gluing together. It's best to attach the feet to the base first - that allows you to get a good contact between the two halves of the body and the left hand which is touching the base -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I shot a <a href="http://studiomcvey.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/grendlr-assembly.html">video</a> for how to handle that issue, and we found it worked very effectively. There is a similar issue with the Cthonian - but it's just one of the legs that has warped, causing problems with the way it fits on the base. Again, this was pretty simple to fix - I just dipped it in very hot water (being careful), and re-shaped it slightly.<br />
<br />
I found the best way to do this was to attach the left leg first (as that fit correctly), and then correct the position of the right leg, lining it up by standing the miniature on it's feet while the leg cools.<br />
<br />
The other thing I did on this one, was to pin the arms into place - this is not strictly necessary, but where there is a large part attaching to a small area, the increased leverage make it quite likely to break off if dropped. I just drilled a hole in the end of the rounded part of the joint - glued a short length of brass wire in place (a little bit of paper clip would do just as well), and then drill a corresponding hole in the gun. The two parts are then glued together. There is one part that is optional - the face plate. If you want to add that, it just attaches to the front of the head.<br />
<br />
Here are the parts for the Cthonian -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Here is the fit between the right leg and the ground before it is fixed, the left leg is glued in place here -<br />

<br />
<br />
Here is the fit after the right leg has been dipped in hot water and held against the ground while it dries, and is then glued to the base -<br />

<br />
<br />
To pin the arms in place, I drilled a hole in the body half, then inserted a short brass pin -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Then the arm was glued in place, and I did the same for the opposite side -<br />

The parts go together very easily for this one - there are definite locations for each of the limbs. I found it easiest to attach three of the limbs first - making sure the contact with the ground was level while the glue was drying. It should be fine though as the fittings are accurate. When the first three limbs were on - I glued it to the base, then added the final leg.<br />
<br />
Here are the components -<br />

The only separate part on this miniature is the right arm - which glues on pretty easily at the shoulder. There is no plug and socket joint, but the parts fit accurately together in the correct position. There is one trickly little injection mark to remove on the tendril - the best way to et this is to hold the part flat against a solid surface (ideally a cutting mat, or piece of thick card), and carefully trim it away with a sharp blade.<br />
<br />
Here are the two parts -<br />

The Reaver support weapon and the left arm, are supplied attached to a sprue - so these need to be cut off the sprue before assembly. Be careful to cut away the sprue marks on the plug-joint of the arm - to ensure it fit snugly in the socket-joint of the shoulder.<br />
<br />
Here are the parts -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbTgVvsexS5M-gOkO4U_SDMsrpd9MEGKECkVnXrH3VEAoUwN977MphPE8TIz-Wp7VQUFp6W4FAuD1uv_d8rSrQ_SY6trpLNrzxonS3CMTjt1g6HaDU_i1VsM5Te9JC4e-s40IqJx2MrDun/s1600/reaver_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbTgVvsexS5M-gOkO4U_SDMsrpd9MEGKECkVnXrH3VEAoUwN977MphPE8TIz-Wp7VQUFp6W4FAuD1uv_d8rSrQ_SY6trpLNrzxonS3CMTjt1g6HaDU_i1VsM5Te9JC4e-s40IqJx2MrDun/s400/reaver_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The model is simple to assemble - attach the right arms first, and then the gun. The arm fits solidly to the shoulder (it only fits one way), ensuring the gun fit is accurate.<br />

The parts go together in a very straightforward way, and the only tricky thing is deciding which weapon to give him. We only have one studio version painted, so I have inserted a pin for the Plasma thrower (it's a tight fit in the hole so stays on okay), and if I want to use the Fusion lance I pop a little piece of blu-tac in the join - it's worked fine in games so far. People have suggested using magnets to attach the weapons, and that sounds like a great idea - I must give it a try.<br />

This is a very straightforward one to put together, and it's pretty clear where the different parts go. The only tricky thing is the base - there is a re-enforced hole in the middle of the base for the post, and this need to be cut out.<br />
<br />
The best thing to do here is to use a sharp craft-knife blade and twist if through from the back of the base. Once the point is through - flip the base over and cut from the top surface. Please take care when you are doing this - always cut away from your fingers and work on a cutting mat if possible.<br />
<br />
Here are the components for the miniature. There are four pieces plus the base - main hull, turret, aerial and post.<br />

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7578442879065078922.post-42376627329192935142013-01-17T04:23:00.001-08:002013-01-17T04:23:33.775-08:00Grendlr - AssemblyI thought I would skip ahead a little on the assembly and have a look at The Grendlr, as some questions have been raised about the fit between the pieces. After a quick dry fit of the parts (just holding them together to see how they look) - it became very obvious that the fit between the two body halves and the mouth piece is pretty poor. I'm not entirely sure what has caused this - the samples I received earlier in the production process were far better. I can only assume that there was either some warping when the parts are removed from the mould - or they have been subject to differences in temperature during shipping (the games are transported in containers that have no temperature control). Either way, I have to be honest and say I'm disappointed, and apologise if that's the way you feel when seeing the miniature.<br />
<br />
However... I have just spent the last hour putting the Grendlr together (and that was cleaning the mould lines, shooting a short video and assembling the whole thing, while taking pictures along the way), and I'm <u>far</u> happier now. There is a very simple technique that can be used to get a very accurate fit between the parts - it takes no practice, and the results are really, really good. I have never done this before, so I'm as new to it as you are. We shot a short video of the process - apologies for the quality, but hopefully you can see what I'm doing. We'll try and find the time to shoot a better one soon.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.youtube.com/embed/ruunglkNY5A?feature=player_embedded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div>
<br />
<br />
All you have to do, is put the parts you are assembling in very hot water for around 20 seconds (I heated water in a kettle, and turned it off just before boiling) - and while they are still hot, firmly press them together. I was really pretty astounded at how well this works - I did it with the two body halves, and the fit was great. I then glued the body together, and did the same with the mouth-piece - I put it in hot water (not the glued body though), and pressed it onto the body.<br />
<br />
You obviously have to be careful with the water - I used a pair of pliers to remove the pieces from the bowl, but when I handled them (pretty much immediately), they were only warm. Nowhere near hot enough to burn you.<br />
<br />
All of the other parts fitted very well - the exception being the head, which needed the location lugs trimming to get an accurate fit. I presume this is because the body parts have changed shape very slightly with the technique above.<br />
<br />
Overall I am really happy with the Grendlr - I started this morning a little depressed about how poorly the body pieces fitted, but I now have the assembled miniature in front of me, and it looks fantastic. In all honesty I'd take this over a metal version any day of the week, and it's not far behind the resin castings.<br />
<br />
Here's the stage-by-stage -<br />
<br />
The fist thing to do was to clean the injection marks and mould lines from the parts. The mould lines were actually very light on this miniature, so that was a quick process. Just make sure you have a brand new blade in your craft knife - it makes it far easier and the results better.<br />
<br />
The next step was to fit the two body halves together - and as mentioned above, I improved the fit dramatically with the hot water technique, so much that there was no gap at all along the spine and across the belly. There was still a slight gap where the mouth was going to fit, but I knew that was going to be completely covered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyjXU6X486RFImPFKeE508w95FByGOc1i3adFElDjT0B2TqC_CKR5GIPaIqNMc4TkIJtQy2eAyWqTZu733Qr6cZWXSYSato5p2ylXrhFeqmAFo6mVjizgmpYvVlnlnOimbBwTa9_cQap7/s1600/grendlr_body_halves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyjXU6X486RFImPFKeE508w95FByGOc1i3adFElDjT0B2TqC_CKR5GIPaIqNMc4TkIJtQy2eAyWqTZu733Qr6cZWXSYSato5p2ylXrhFeqmAFo6mVjizgmpYvVlnlnOimbBwTa9_cQap7/s400/grendlr_body_halves.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next part to fit was the mouth piece - and this was the only other part that I did the hot-water method on. I also removed the fitting lugs between the body and mouth part, as this made it easier to get a good fit. They were very simple to cut away with a sharp blade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLoXWk8lOfjkrlNIT-N0q4XzVSoCw8byToAW5hEmuIrAKYml7mA_IOqC7Vojf8VnjE48Di2CBcnp5_xuLHh9LK0U1fqtlLoDYdCZYC0RzbHLPnBxDTJX1Mmb1D6dqF7jdLnDyrhDoIhLVP/s1600/grendlr_mouth.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLoXWk8lOfjkrlNIT-N0q4XzVSoCw8byToAW5hEmuIrAKYml7mA_IOqC7Vojf8VnjE48Di2CBcnp5_xuLHh9LK0U1fqtlLoDYdCZYC0RzbHLPnBxDTJX1Mmb1D6dqF7jdLnDyrhDoIhLVP/s400/grendlr_mouth.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next was the head - and again, I cut away the fitting lugs on the back to give a more accurate fit with the body.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTTG8UBwLzswQPVvvurKOMymhOqEkA2BMU_5iz38EyLLMhYeUt_q_TPFsHSN2cHa4JaOJdzalxq8QPPcRFJls3-KE3f6ezmKzq9YhWJLXUPfY6z32cqyNRdbcyQMYUiJt4TuTawCHZXwp/s1600/grendlr_head_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlTTG8UBwLzswQPVvvurKOMymhOqEkA2BMU_5iz38EyLLMhYeUt_q_TPFsHSN2cHa4JaOJdzalxq8QPPcRFJls3-KE3f6ezmKzq9YhWJLXUPfY6z32cqyNRdbcyQMYUiJt4TuTawCHZXwp/s400/grendlr_head_2.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Once the head was in place, it was simply a case of gluing the rest of the parts in place, one by one. There are fitting lugs for the legs and arms and they ensure you get a good fit between the Grendlr and it's base - so all three limbs contact the ground solidly. Here are the photos of the rest of the parts going on -<br />

<br />
And here are a couple of different views of the finished piece. I know it's just a little more work than is ideal, but I think that is more than offset by the miniature itself - I really think it looks fantastic. It was always ambitious to put such a large piece in the game, but I'm really glad we did.<br />

<br />
Kara comes in four pieces plus the base - Body, right arm with gun, left arm with sword, scabbard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJC7SU29_1-nM1sv2UguE4Xt5X0e-YZ7eWIEJCIWH9wLCUNLVFk89o9FU1rdkuywDyiczYCJvg2Ax8i3FolgmffhhoVRihja3D0lunt1gKKNODEEtUOXvjUvnW1JRllB9W-LxRjAOhfTef/s1600/kara_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJC7SU29_1-nM1sv2UguE4Xt5X0e-YZ7eWIEJCIWH9wLCUNLVFk89o9FU1rdkuywDyiczYCJvg2Ax8i3FolgmffhhoVRihja3D0lunt1gKKNODEEtUOXvjUvnW1JRllB9W-LxRjAOhfTef/s400/kara_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
The assembly is extremely straight-forward - the gun is a very secure fit, contacting the model on the back (with a location lug) as well as the shoulder. The sword can be positioned in a few different ways, to give some variation from the studio version shown in the game. The scabbard is a simple plug-fit piece.<br />

<br />
There are five for this miniature - Body, left leg, head, right arm and gun.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEYyFoP7VOjXHCH4jHKjiPFwTtpa0VuHclWDjQP9y9z19Q9ES1FC7H7Lz6oToLvM9xOQ7DDMFul-gn4S09EzgQXXuT3e2J38DAP-HB4UywGpF5ph6GORyGsfqrXJTU5ckWN78KC5GO5Rox/s1600/akosha_parts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEYyFoP7VOjXHCH4jHKjiPFwTtpa0VuHclWDjQP9y9z19Q9ES1FC7H7Lz6oToLvM9xOQ7DDMFul-gn4S09EzgQXXuT3e2J38DAP-HB4UywGpF5ph6GORyGsfqrXJTU5ckWN78KC5GO5Rox/s400/akosha_parts.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The process is just the same as outlined in the Morgan Vade article - clean the components first, then assemble them one at a time, being careful to let the glue dry before moving on to the next. The only difference with this miniature, is the leg needs to be attached to the body before the body can be glued to the base.<br />
<br />
The leg, arm and head are all plug in pieces - so very easy to assemble. The gun is a little more tricky as there are no locating pegs (the pieces are too small) but the fit is accurate with the arms. It will help the gluing process if you carefully remove a little of the surfaces to be joined with a sharp blade or emery board - that gives a stronger join.<br />
<br />
Stage by stage photos below.<br />
<br />
cheers!<br />

<br />
Morgan comes in five pieces, plus the base - body, head, arm with bag, arm with pistol, las carbine.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI1BPSes1n4P-5Su9MR43QiC4G6X8EOL_UsNvtOYMRLxDvdZof3olLvp_LX0DOFTn03LXQOE2sC76aMD7ReON8YtnoNyHlGED2lyP5jf8DGrI7H31A092ztjwEHtghJI2G9qCogFlmQf3f/s1600/morgan_pieces.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI1BPSes1n4P-5Su9MR43QiC4G6X8EOL_UsNvtOYMRLxDvdZof3olLvp_LX0DOFTn03LXQOE2sC76aMD7ReON8YtnoNyHlGED2lyP5jf8DGrI7H31A092ztjwEHtghJI2G9qCogFlmQf3f/s400/morgan_pieces.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first thing to do, as with any of the miniatures, is to clean the pieces. This means removing the mould lines (the lines on the miniatures where the two halves of the mould meet), and any injection marks (the place where the plastic is injected into the mould cavity). The best way to do this is to carefully cut them away with a sharp craft-knife blade. Because of the nature of the plastic used, it's hard to get a smooth finish with a file - the plastic has a tendency to 'tear'.<br />
<br />
Once the pieces are clean, you can assemble them. We recommend you use 'super-glue' (<span style="background-color: white; color: #222222; line-height: 16px;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Cyanoacrylate</span></span> glue), plastic cement glues won't work correctly as they are designed for a different type of plastic. The first thing I did was to attach the body to the base - (mainly so it would be easier to photograph for this article) but you can do that once all the pieces are glued together if you like. To make sure the miniature has a strong bond with the base, I smoothed off the underside of the feet with a emery board (home made in this case, but the ones you can buy are just as good) - this tears the surface very slightly, but as it's where the miniature attaches to the base - that doesn't matter.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioFRtE2JBxTrCnFhC0pps9th3ZC0PcT1DQzAjScbHYca2vvde3o06DamRKymClMrPwK_VbVsmGrZeSWR9EOr4JGwpUttyMXZl81E4ygdLVOvyqlvmh-pgmdux1BCo5P_6pggDxPvPHNs05/s1600/morgan_feet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioFRtE2JBxTrCnFhC0pps9th3ZC0PcT1DQzAjScbHYca2vvde3o06DamRKymClMrPwK_VbVsmGrZeSWR9EOr4JGwpUttyMXZl81E4ygdLVOvyqlvmh-pgmdux1BCo5P_6pggDxPvPHNs05/s400/morgan_feet.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's important to make sure the first bond is dry before moving onto the next - otherwise the pieces will have a tendency to come apart again. You can speed up the drying with an accelerator (usually a spray), or by either using a hair drier or simply breathing on them (don't get too close!).<br />
<br />
After that, it simply a case of attaching one component after another until the miniature is complete.<br />
<br />

All the parts are photographed so you can see which parts go with which miniatures.<br />
<br />
Where the position of the fit is important we have tried to use a plug wherever possible, so that they will go together correctly. For example on the small right arm for Akosha, it's important that the position is just right or it's hard to position the gun. The plug join only allows you to assemble it in the correct position.<br />
<br />
Here are the parts split for each of the miniatures in this bag -<br />
<br />
A - Morgan Vade. Body, head, right arm with bag, left arm with pistol, las carbine<br />
B - Hurley. Main hull, turret, aerial, post for attaching to base.<br />
C - Akosha. Body, left leg (shown attached to body), head, right arm, gun<br />
D - Kara Black. Body, right arm with gun, left arm with sword, scabbard<br />
E - Barker Zosa. Body, right arm, power lifter unit, left knee pad, fusion lance, plasma thrower<br />
<br />

<br />
This first brief article just covers what you get in the box - and how they are organised. In the next one we'll start looking at specific examples, and then some hands-on assembly.<br />
<br />
When you take all the printed material from the box - you will get to the miniatures in the bottom of the box (see the unboxing video <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ou7w4sA4g">here</a> for a general over-view of what you get in the game box). They are bagged together as they come out of the production moulds. This means that some of the parts for miniature will be in separate bags - for example, the las carbines for the female Samaritans are in one bag and the bodies are in another. I will make all of that completely clear in these articles though, and take pictures of all the parts that go together.<br />
<br />
For the time being - here are the relevant bags.<br />
<br />

<br />
I last posted during the Kickstarted campaign, and while I failed in my bid to post every day, I did manage quite a lot of blog entries while it was running. Towards the end of the madness I just couldn't find the time to write anything here - and if I had written anything it wouldn't have made much sense due to severe lack of sleep! It was a wild and crazy month - and we're still reeling from it, but we're more grateful that I can possibly say to everyone who supported us. As soon as the campaign ended, we were caught up in house moving (and building!) madness, and we are still jot quite through that yet. I'm sitting in the new studio surrounded by boxes that need to be unpacked and desks that need to be assembled. We are back on-line though which is a huge relief - having no reliable internet connection for a couple of months tested us to the limit. Having nowhere to call home can be coped with, but take away the internet and everything pales into insignificance! We're in the new house now though (with internet there too!), so things should return to something close to normal soon.<br />
<br />
Battle for Alabaster in 100% finished and waiting to be loaded onto boats in China - as soon as it touches down the Kickstarter orders will be shipped and dispatched, followed shortly afterwards by the regular retail release. I have the first complete copy sitting on my desk, and I have to say we're absolutely delighted with it. Check out the short <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ou7w4sA4g">unboxing video</a> we posted on our Youtube channel.<br />
<br />
We have also been hard at work creating all the new content generated by the Kickstarter campaign - with some really great sculpts being made and exciting scenarios written. I'll post some of the material here as soon as I get the chance.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, we have just rolled out a great new miniature for the Limited Edition Resin series. <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7ou7w4sA4g">Hathya</a> is another great Allan Carrasco sculpt - with that natural brilliance for capturing anatomy and pose that I think makes his talents unique. Check out the pictures below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpSaynloZzB4SIoCyhlQ4Q6DiSk29p0DQjn9LgBCgz8rrpF52bPtzOJoQ7sQS9w-vcNe8EK-elZ6mJxznCe-JtSZE2oHqUu-bOQIgBz9AqLxXz71wlO8XJw5dw6cWUxQbNsA9mc0t9JLbM/s1600/hathya_blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpSaynloZzB4SIoCyhlQ4Q6DiSk29p0DQjn9LgBCgz8rrpF52bPtzOJoQ7sQS9w-vcNe8EK-elZ6mJxznCe-JtSZE2oHqUu-bOQIgBz9AqLxXz71wlO8XJw5dw6cWUxQbNsA9mc0t9JLbM/s400/hathya_blog.jpg" width="346" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now things are more settled at Studio McVey HQ, I'll try and post more regularly again - there are lots of exciting things happening here, so there's no shortage of things to talk about.<br />
<br />
cheers!<br />

It's really quite amazing...<br />
<br />
We just hit the stretch goal for a Strain version of a promotion figure we've been offering - so anyone who bought the miniature, will now get the Strain version for free. Here's the concept for the character -<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZo_nts0GBvZnjH9EnNfVP9t-ALZvct99fNgqb_CEIwfXFY8skGZkbxNmIDGVkSqDqiMOL2Lx5D1tW0tlAvSJBz5lmO-ShJTmksv7p_F-nYq9q2yICYhyphenhyphengJqyM8QVQBwkuXiHYm_1pLCUC/s1600/Firebrand_Eng_final_small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZo_nts0GBvZnjH9EnNfVP9t-ALZvct99fNgqb_CEIwfXFY8skGZkbxNmIDGVkSqDqiMOL2Lx5D1tW0tlAvSJBz5lmO-ShJTmksv7p_F-nYq9q2yICYhyphenhyphengJqyM8QVQBwkuXiHYm_1pLCUC/s400/Firebrand_Eng_final_small.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
- and here he is with an unhealthy dose of the Strain nano virus pumped into him -<br />
<br />

The first version at this piece was originally intended for the rule-book, but it had to be cut to make room for all the 'real' content.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">The starting point of Sedition Wars was the
miniatures, and however far we go on the journey we’ve started in this
universe, it will always come back to the miniatures in the end. Our aim when
starting Studio McVey, was to provide the best miniatures possible for
painters, collectors and gamers - and I’d like to think we have done exactly
that in the last three years. I’ll happily put our miniatures along side any in
the industry. I’m intensely proud of the miniatures we have created with the
help of some of the most talented concept artists and miniature sculptors in
the industry.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">We launched Studio McVey with the Limited Edition
resin line, and while that allowed us to let our imaginations run wild –
producing miniatures for any genre and style, we always had plans to be a
little more focused. Sedition Wars is our opportunity to do just that – a
chance to create an exciting and evocative universe to set the miniatures in. </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">The genesis of the Sedition Wars line was one of the
Limited Edition miniatures - Lieutenant Kara Black. Right from the initial
concept by Sam Wood, she seemed to have a life of her own, and we wanted to
find out more about who she was. Little did we think back then – this game is
where she would lead us.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

We produced one of our most popular miniatures ever from these concepts. The initial plan for that piece was to sculpt the Spider Mammoth as well - but we decided to save that until later (Yes, we will do it at some point!).<br />

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">We always wanted Sedition Wars to be Kara’s story (I
know, it sounds like a terrible Lifetime movie), and we would follow her, much
as you would the main protagonist in a video game. Initially the story was her
fight against the Firebrand rebellion, and the ways that conflict altered and
drove her. Then the Strain arrived. </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">I can’t remember exactly how The Strain was born –
they were the product of the many creative meeting between Rob Baxter and
myself. Once they had arrived, there was no ignoring them – and they
quickly spread and infected our thoughts and plans. We really had no choice!
That quickly led to the birth of Battle for Alabaster – the first game set in
the Sedition Wars universe, and the product for which we have launched the
<a href="http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabaster">KickStarter campaign.</a><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">Once we’d decided to create Battle for Alabaster, we
had to fix on what sort of game it was going to be – we soon came to the
conclusion we didn’t want it to be a table-top skirmish game. The preferred
option was for something fast and easy to play – but that still offered a lot
of tactical flexibility, and most importantly – re-playability. We think Battle
for Alabaster fits that brief very well – there is a claustrophobic urgency to
the games, and they are certainly fast and bloody!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">Rob started working on the rules late in 2010, and I took an early version to the following GenCon to see what people thought.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The response was fantastic and I had a great time demoing the game and chatting to people about various different ideas (some of which made it into the game), and that gave me the confidence to push forwards with the project.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">The universe has grown and changed since it was first
created – in fact it’s almost got a life and momentum of its own. Little ideas
mentioned in passing suddenly became central parts of the story, and plot lines
developed of their own accord. I think that’s the way it should be – if we were
still rigidly adhering to the original ideas we had, Sedition Wars wouldn’t be
nearly as exciting and (hopefully!) compelling as it is now.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0cm; mso-layout-grid-align: none; mso-pagination: none; text-autospace: none;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;">So Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster is the result
of over two years of effort – countless hours of work, but a fun and rewarding
journey. Our aim was always to tell a story – if we can immerse people in that
universe and keep them coming back to find out what is happening to the
characters – we’ll have done our jobs well. We hope you enjoy playing Sedition
Wars: Battle for Alabaster as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>

Hurley is an autonomous AI capable of offering both tactical support and backup, along with serious offensive capabilities. Hurley's ace card is the ability to deploy and control drones, which are are able to fulfil several different support and offensive roles.<br />
